The Best Girls Weekend Getaway Destinations to Book in North America

Tulum, Mexico

Tulum, Mexico, is the ULTIMATE girls trip destination.

First, there is the show-stopping natural scenery.

You have soft white sand beaches, beckoning turquoise waters, and a seemingly never-ending list of underground cenotes to explore.

But beyond the water, there is truly an endless list of things to do in Tulum.

Spend your weekend girls trip away wandering around ancient Mayan ruins, hitting up the steady stream of beach bars, or finding some zen at a yoga retreat.

Whatever your vibe, you’ll find it in Tulum.

  • Flight Time to Tulum from Major U.S. Cities: 2-5 hours
  • Nearest Airport: Cancun International Airport (CUN)
  • Drive Time from Cancun: 1.5 – 2 hours
  • How Much Time to Spend in Tulum (Minimum): 3 nights

Where to Stay

For shorter stays, book a weekend away at one of the Tulum beach hotels. While the beachfront properties are more expensive, you’ll get to wake up just steps from the water, which is the best way to maximize your time here & soak up all the vitamin sea!

If you can swing it, the suites at Papaya Playa Project come with private plunge pools.

On the flip side, for something more affordable, stay in Tulum Town. My top picks are Hotel Bardo (hands down, my favorite place in Tulum!) and Hotel Tiki Tiki.

Greater Palm Springs, California

Rachel Off Duty: Best Girls Weekend Getaway Destinations - Palm Springs

Not in the mood for sand and sea? Swap out tropical beach vistas for a desert oasis.

With a super laid-back ambiance (unless you’re going during a major festival like Coachella), Palm Springs and the surrounding area is perfect for a chilled-out girls’ weekend getaway.

Plus, you and your friends won’t need to look too hard to find a pool party.

As someone who’s called California home for more than a decade, Palm Springs is just one of those places I wouldn’t mind spending just about any weekend in. The desert landscape here is spellbinding, and the mid-century modern architecture will keep you coming back for more.

If you and your best girlfriends are looking for a gorgeous setting for a relaxing weekend, Palm Springs is your mecca.

  • Nearest Airport: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Palm Springs International Airport (PSP)
  • Drive Time from Los Angeles, California: 1hr 40 minutes
  • How Much Time to Spend in Greater Palm Springs (Minimum): 1 night

Where to Stay

With so many beautiful hotels to choose from, deciding where to stay in Palm Springs can feel overwhelming.

However, you can’t go wrong with a night or two at the famous Ace Hotel and Swim Club (renowned for its pool parties in the summer!) or Palm Springs Rendezvous (a firm favorite of Marilyn Monroe’s).

Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico

Another Mexico destination?!”

You bet!

I adore Mexico because it really is one of the easiest getaways within North America and generally a pretty easy flight from most places in the USA, depending on where you’re heading. While most travelers usually hang around Cancun, there is far more to Mexico than its sunny beaches and all-inclusive resorts.

Valle de Guadalupe, located in Baja, is one of my favorite girls’ trip locations for wine tasting.

I know.

“Mexico” and “wine” were not two things I thought really went together until I made my first trip down the coast to see for myself.

Thanks to its Mediterranean climate, this small Baja town prides itself on making delicious local wine. Valle de Guadalupe’s laid-back, unpretentious nature is ideal for a quick all-girls getaway across the border. Plus, besides the rather bumpy roads (fair warning!), I’ve always found Valle de Guadalupe to be incredibly safe and welcoming to visitors from all over the world.

In addition to wine tasting to your heart’s content, you can unwind with a massage and feast on world-class dining at farm-to-table restaurants with pristine, 360-degree views of the surrounding valley.

  • Flight Time to Valle de Guadalupe from Major U.S. Cities: 2-5 hours
  • Nearest Airport: Tijuana International Airport (TIJ), San Diego International Airport (SAN)
  • Driving Time from San Diego or Tijuana: 1.5 – 2 hours
  • How Much Time to Spend in Valle de Guadalupe (Minimum): 2 nights

Where to Stay

The Valle de Guadalupe is home to exquisite, design-forward accommodation options. You and the girls can rent out an entire villa for the weekend or escape to a vineyard-lined hotel along the region’s Ruta del Vino (wine route!).

My favorite place to stay in the Valle is UvaUva Eco Retreat. It’s a sustainable boutique hotel in San Antonio de las Minas that boasts sweeping views of the Valle and is a quick drive from several delicious eateries, wineries, and even the beaches in neighboring Ensenada.

If you’re after something eclectic, book a stay at the Lumi Hotel. Its spacious cargo container suites are Scandinavian-inspired and come with a roof terrace plus complimentary breakfast!

Sedona, Arizona

The rumors are true.

Sedona, Arizona, is magical.

Whether you believe in the mystical healing powers of vortexes or you’re simply mesmerized by the red rock beauty of the American southwest, Sedona is a girls weekend getaway you’ll never forget.

For a centering, relaxing getaway, sign your girlfriends up for a Sedona spiritual retreat. Use your 48 hours away to meditate, do some yoga, experience sound healing, and go on a journey of self-exploration.

For those who love the great outdoors, maximize your time in Sedona by renting a couple of campervans and sleeping underneath the stars. Sedona is one of the few certified dark sky communities in the world and is just as breathtaking by night as it is by day. To maximize your time here, you can even sign up for a stargazing tour.

  • Nearest Airport: Sedona Airport (SDX), Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX)
  • Driving Time from Phoenix: 1-1.5 hours
  • Min Time to Spend in Sedona: 1 night

Where to Stay

Searching for a budget girl’s getaway? You’ll love Sedona’s campgrounds.

Perfect for campervan trips, I recommend making a reservation at Dead Horse Ranch State Park Campground. It’s just 30 minutes outside the city, and spots sell out fast!

For something closer to Sedona, try the Amara Resort and Spa or the Sky Rock Inn of Sedona. Both options will give you all the creature comforts your heart desires if you’re not looking to spend a weekend “roughing it.”

Glacier National Park, Montana

You cannot go wrong with a girls getaway to Glacier National Park, aka the ‘Switzerland of America.’

…Unless you’re all die-hard city slickers at heart.

In that case, scroll down to the New York section for the East Coast girlfriend getaway of your dreams!

For my fellow nature nerds, Glacier National Park is a rugged jewel you and your friends won’t believe is real.

And while it does seem out of the way, it’s possible to explore it in only three days. I did it on my last trip to Montana with my friends, and it was 100% worth the drive!

Spend the weekend away hiking the Highline Trail (it’s an 11.8-mile loop with jaw-dropping views) and the Siyeh Pass (a 9-mile trail with dramatic scenery along the way).

After a long day out in the wilderness, fuel up on a meal at Johnson’s Cafe (try the fried chicken!) and then drive up the Wild Goose Island Lookout for sunset.

It’s the best girls trip for when a digital detox is in order!

  • Nearest airport: Glacier Park International Airport (FCA)
  • Driving Time from Kalispell: 30 min – 1 hour
  • Min time to Spend in Glacier National Park: 2 nights

Where to Stay

What I love about Glacier National Park are the affordable accommodation options.

Budget travelers can opt for a camping trip with sites starting at $10.

If you prefer something more rustic for your weekend escape, book one of the forest cabins. For those willing to spend a bit more, stay at one of the hotels in Glacier.

New York, New York

Without a doubt, New York is one of the best girls trip destinations in the USA and the world!

With so much to see and do, you could come here every weekend for a whole year and still discover something new.

Grab your best girlfriends and spend the weekend:

  • Shopping on Fifth Avenue
  • Watching a show on Broadway
  • Sipping on a cocktail from a rooftop bar
  • Indulging in some of the best food in the country
  • Visiting the Top of the Rock, Empire State Building, and The High Line

It’s the ultimate girls trip for friends who want to hit the ground running and soak up some buzzy, big-city energy.

  • Nearest airport: John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport (LGA)
  • Driving Time from Queens: 30 min – 2 hours
  • Min time to Spend in New York City: 3 nights

Where to Stay

New York isn’t the most budget-friendly girls trip destination. However, there are accommodation options for almost every budget and style if you look hard enough.

If you want to save yourself time, book a hotel in Midtown. You’ll have attractions like Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Broadway, and Radio City Music Hall at your fingertips.

citizenM and the Yotel can both be excellent budget options if booked far enough in advance, and The Chatwal is a luxury hotel worth every cent if you want to splurge. For the square footage (a luxury in itself in Manhattan), I enjoy the charms of the Roger Smith. The rooms have more classic decor, but the rooftop bar is a hidden gem I can’t get enough of.

I hope this guide helps you plan a fantastic girls weekend getaway! Questions about planning your best girls trip? Let me know in the comments below!
