Onto the next adventure... 🤍💍 We're engage Onto the next adventure... 🤍💍

We're engaged!!!!!

Life has a funny way of sorting itself out. What started as two coworkers trying to make sense of their early careers and relationships (we weren't even friends at this point 😂) turned into the best friend and life partner I could've ever dreamed of.

This year, we started talking a lot about getting married. But the timing always felt off. We've been living nomadically for nearly 3 years. We got into a car accident just last month, and lost our only car. We've been scrambling to figure out where we want to live next (and saving for it). To travel slower and establish a more permanent-ish base somewhere, together.

But "the right time" is just another way of saying "someday," and we all know that's my least favorite word 🤪

So here it is. I said HELL YEAH to marrying my best friend. I can't wait to be promoted to a fancy french fiancé with you 😭🤍✨
A closer look at one of my new favorite boutique h A closer look at one of my new favorite boutique hotels in CDMX | @nanavidacdmxlaroma

NaNa Vida (meaning "what a blessing" in Zapotec) is a marriage between the hip and trendy energy of CDMX, and the art and flavor of Oaxaca 🙏🏽 Throughout the hotel, you can see colorful punches of personality with murals and art pieces from artists originating from the Istmo de Tehuantepec (southwestern Oaxaca).

There's even complimentary mezcal and other fun goodies along the way 🙌🏽

I asked owner Gladys, who along with her husband opened the doors to NaNa Vida CDMX late last year, what makes supporting female entrepreneurs in Mexico so powerful, especially given Mexico's machismo culture. She told me "the opportunity gap between male and female owned businesses is narrowing as women become braver and our culture starts supporting the option of us [choosing less] traditional roles to become entrepreneurs."

The takeaway: we can help shrink gender gaps when we travel by seeking out woman-owned!

Thank you NaNa Vida and the entire staff (especially @memo.higareda for the photo inspo & warm welcome!). I loved learning what makes boutique properties like this the unexpected heartbeat of Mexico City hospitality. Already counting down the days till I'm back in this electric city.

It's the free mezcal at check-in for me 🙌🏽🙌🏽

When Tripadvisor challenged me to shine a spotlight on woman-owned hotels in one of my favorite cities on the planet, I was PUMPED! I expected thoughtful interiors and great hospitality, of course, but what blew me away even more were all these little details I uncovered along the way 💕

Each hotel felt more like a refuge than a hotel. A safe, quiet, cozy, welcoming place in the middle of one of the largest metropolises in North America. From the conversations with each hotel's onsite team, to the most subtle of gestures – like locally sourced breakfasts and local artwork and books celebrating Mexican design – every space I checked into gave me an immense feeling of the pride each hotel has in elevating Mexican culture.

For me, it's the little touches like these that absolutely distinguish a hotel from just a place you crash at the end of the day, to a place you can call home, even if it's just for a night.

👉🏽👉🏽 Head to the link in my bio for a full roundup of Mexico City's Off Duty Approved woman-owned hotels!

Special thank you to the team at Tripadvisor for recognizing the importance of woman-owned and supporting this article!

Unpopular opinion: unlimited PTO really CAN work! Unpopular opinion: unlimited PTO really CAN work!

✨ new blog post - link in bio ✨

Unlimited PTO (paid time off) often gets mixed reactions from people. Some absolutely love it. some say it's all just lip service.

What do you think?

Personally, I am here for unlimited PTO!! It works for my lifestyle and allows me to decide not only how much PTO I can take (which is a lifesaver in helping me take time to travel and work on my business), but how much PTO I can handle while remaining productive.

⬇️⬇️⬇️ At the end of the day, unlimited PTO only works if TWO things are present:
1. Healthy encouragement from your company to actually exercise this benefit properly
2. Healthy use (not abuse!) from you ✨

That's right - you have a lot more power to influence your company's relationship with time off than you think!

Some things I've done to help me navigate unlimited PTO, as someone who struggled to understand it in the past, are:
• asking my boss for a reasonable PTO range to aim for as a new hire

• building a relationship with my HR team & asking for advice

• getting insights on the company's PTO use (what's normal? what are other people doing?)

• being honest with myself about how much time I should take off without negatively impacting my work

• over-communicating progress on my projects

• raising my hand first to cover anyone taking a vacation

• providing coverage notes when I'm out of office

• talking about my PTO with others (and getting excited about theirs!)

***At the end of the day, these are just my experiences and everyone's career situations are different. Unlimited PTO is also just one of the many benefits you should weigh when evaluating what matters to you & your life.

What work & travel questions should I cover on my next #CareerChat? Tell me below!
The secret's out - Mexico City's woman-owned hotel The secret's out - Mexico City's woman-owned hotels are some of the coolest places you can stay in all of CDMX.

@tripadvisor challenged me to uncover the coolest woman-owned hotels in Mexico City, and not only did I find some ultra chic and beautiful hotels, I found some of the best hospitality, most beautiful design, and most thoughtful touches I wasn't even expecting.

Tomorrow, I'll show you what those were! But don't just take my word for it – the Tripadvisor reviewers speak for themselves (you’ll want to check them out!) ⭐

It was actually not easy to find woman-owned hotels (and tbh, it usually isn't). Women make up to 85% of the travel decisions when it comes to planning vacations, but are still massively underrepresented when it comes to having a seat at the other side of the table.

So, when I see a woman-owned business, I jump at the opportunity to support it.

Are you here for it? Comment a 💕 below if you'd stay at one of these hotels, and click the link in my bio for the full list of Mexico City's Off Duty Approved woman-owned hotels! #Tripadvisor #WomanOwned #BoutiqueHotels #MexicoCity
Dear instagram algorithm, where are my PTO power u Dear instagram algorithm, where are my PTO power users at? ⁣👀

There are only 7 weeks left in 2023, so allow me to kindly bump up this reminder to circle back & make sure you're using all your precious vacation days before the year ends.

And no worries if not, but you should definitely not leave any PTO on the table. Especially if it doesn't roll over. So if you've been waiting to take that long weekend in wine country or that camping trip, there's no better time - yes, even in Q4.

Have you used (or do you already have a plan to use) all your vacation days this year? How have you used them? Let me know in the comments!

Sincerely,
Your always-traveling coworker bestie 🫶🏽

P.S. if you are reading this and you have an oh-so-mysterious unlimited PTO policy, let me tell you exactly how to use it to the fullest extent (without any drama). Link in bio! #CareerChat #OffDutyMindset
