Quebecers are warm-weather maximalists. Think dinners al fresco, never-ending summer festivals, tons of parks and nature trails, and countless ways to get out on the water.

It’s a city that knows warm days are fleeting, and that you should take every opportunity to enjoy them as they come.

And a summer trip to Quebec City shouldn’t stop there. Renting a car to explore the national parks, the wildlife reserves, the nearby smaller towns, and other lively cities like Laval and Montreal is highly recommended. This summer was my second time in this beautiful province, and it certainly won’t be the last.

There are so many reasons I always try to seek out locally owned places to stay, but one of the most underrated ones might be this. Witnessing someone else’s idea of paradise, realized. Experiencing the thing they oh so meticulously dreamed up to share with the world.

A few hours outside of the city, in the Mauricie region of Quebec, husband and wife-owned Le Baluchon is one of those places. Postcards from a few long, warm days up north! I b

Postcards from a few long, warm days up north! I bet you didn’t expect Quebec City to look like this in the summer months?

Finally getting around to the archives from earlier this season, where I spent 10 days in Quebec for a conference. It was my first time in Canada in the summer, and I’m sure it won’t be the last.

I love picturing how different parts of the world experience this time of year, and I imagine just how good a day like this must feel in the parts of the world where the seasons are more distinct, and the warm days are ephemeral and fleeting. Like how an afternoon I might take for granted stretches into infinity for someone else, the sun kissing their skin as if for the very first time.

If you find yourself in Quebec City during these last weeks of summer, I hope your days are filled with nordic spas, long walks in the Old City, waterfall views, kayaking, dinners al fresco, and endless play.

If we’re lucky to get 80 true summers in our lifetime, I hope they all feel as special as this.
